Study: To restore ecosystems, think about thwarting hungry herbivores

https://phys.org/news/2023-11-ecosystems-thwarting-hungry-herbivores.html

Sort of another, (what should be at this point) “duh” realization from a recently published study in Science– restoring conditions ( predators in this case) more closely matching how ecosystems evolved to be  previous to capital’s ecosystem destruction is key way to restore healthy plant environments and combat the climate crisis.

I guess to have a less cynical or jaded take, better to say, there is much human society could actually still do to combat and prevent at least the worst of both the climate and biodiversity crisis that threatens much of planetary life (including our own ) if we had the type of system (actual eco-socialism) that didn’t predispose all economic and political decisions to the service of capital accumulation and imperial interests. That society could study and then implement best practices learned by ecosystem science for restoration/preservation of life.

Added to ecosystem restoration, such a society could move to transform energy production and use to more sustainable and non-polluting forms of energy while severely and step-by-step reducing the amount of industrial animal agriculture on the planet and it’s requisite production of methane gas.
